Reading – We are using reading strategies to help us decode words. One strategy to remind your child of is: “skip it for now.” For example, if they get to a word that they cannot read, skip the word and read the rest of the page or sentence. Then, go back to see if they can figure it out. This way, they can use the other words as clues to help them figure out the hard word.
Grammar – We are learning about compound words. Have your child identify compound words as they are reading a book. Example: The dad brought the girl a milkshake. The compound word is “milkshake.”
Writing –They will be observing how butter is made and are learning how to write an Explanatory Writing paragraph. Some transition words to use as they describe the steps are” At first, Next, After that, Then and Finally.
Math – We will continue to work on Chapter 5. One lesson learned involved using addition to check subtraction.
Social Studies/Science – Topic: Pilgrims and Native Americans
Essential Question: Who were the Pilgrims and Native Americans and why were they important?
