Reading – We are learning about Nonfiction texts and this month we are reading many books by Gail Gibbons. Can your child find the nonfiction text features: title, the table of contents, glossary and bold words?
Grammar – We are learning about adverbs. Have your child identify adverbs as they are reading a book. Example: The old man and woman ran slowly after the gingerbread man.
Writing – Students will be starting their own Informative Writing on the type of animal of their choice. Informative writing is when you want to teach someone facts about a topic. It has a title, topic sentence, 4 facts with details and a conclusion. Have your child sing the song.
Math – We will be taking the Chapter 3 test: Addition Strategies on Wednesday, October 16th. Students will be reviewing what they have learned and will be taking a practice test by Tuesday.
Social Studies/Science – Students are learning how to categorize and classify animals by looking at their external parts. An example is that birds have feathers. We are also learning to classify mammals, fish, birds, amphibians and reptiles.
