Reading–Students are practicing how to differentiate between fiction and nonfiction genres, and respond to the texts. Students are learning to read to find the gist, read to discover the meaning of unknown words, and the author’s purpose. Each class has been taught the “I PICK” chant to help students find books that suit their preference and reading level.
Here is the link of the chant if you would like to practice it with your child at home:
Grammar – Students will identify and use the basic feature of sentences such as periods and capitals.
Writing– We are working on the 3 parts of a narrative writing piece: beginning, middle, and end.
Math– First graders are currently working on Chapter 1: Addition Concepts within 10. Chapter 1 test will be administered on Thursday, August 8th.
Social Studies:A new unit on Responsible Citizenship will begin this week. In this unit, students will learn about rules and laws in our home, school, and community.
Essential question:How can we be responsible citizens?
Art/Music– Next Thursday, August 8th.
The first grade team would appreciate any donations of glow sticks to sell during Movie Night & Campout to help fundraise for future events. Movie Night & Campout will be on Friday, August 23rd, so we will accept any donations before then. Thank you in advance for your support!
